Is it normal not to do kumite in kyokushin?

I don't do kyokushin, but there are many things that are universal in martial arts. Starting kumite early is a bad idea. Your instructors know what they're doing, and if you're not participating, it's for a reason. Kumite, if you aren't ready for it, is a good way to breed and perpetuate bad habits and technique. They're likely waiting until your basic technique is good enough. I promise you it has nothing to do with whether you can take a punch or not. You don't become a black belt, in any reputable school anyways, without learning control. You're thinking too impetuously. If you really want to be a martial arts practitioner, you need to learn restraint, control, and respect for the instructions of your sensei. If you don't do these things, you will never learn.
