Can Cat Fleas travel from Human to Human?

I've seen Fleas and I've been in a place that had them. I admit I've now become a little paranoid about the whole thing. But now I have a slight problem, you see I have this friend who has fleas. He owns cats (well really their his parents cats) and he says that they've tried everything to get rid of them but they're still there. One day while out with him I found them in his car, they hopped onto my bag and I started freaking out! Now I'm a bit wary about being around him, and I don't know what to do. I haven't got the nerve to tell him to his face that I find it hard to be around him because of the fleas, because I'm worried about upsetting him. But I can't avoid him forever, I mean I've read things on websites that say they can live on human hair for two day's and even he confirmed that. I think I just want to get a few opinions on this first.
